“There is one quality one must possess to win and that is definiteness of purpose, the knowledge of what one wants and a burning desire to possess it”.

Happy New Year

This is the time of the year for analysis and reflection; a time for New Years resolutions and setting goals. The majority of the population is aware of goal setting or New Year’s resolutions, but unfortunately most people fall short in preparing and carrying through their goals. Often the goals are a wish list, rather than a realistic, well thought out plan. It is especially important to spend some time thinking about and preparing your goals. Listed below are some tips from The Novak Group to make the preparation of your goal list productive and lucrative.

Accentuate the Positive
Examine your performance last year, then consider and study your personal strengths. Take a look back at the great accomplishments, and what strength made them great. Successful people use their unique strengths to excel. Make a list of your strengths and implement them into your goal list. Your strengths are the foundation of life personally or professionally. Just doing more of what you do best can dramatically improve your performance. Focus on the strengths and talents that make you shine, and incorporate them into your goals.

Eliminate the Negatives
Let’s get real and examine the weaknesses in your life. When reflecting on the past year, can you find consistent weaknesses or negative behavior that affected you personally or professionally? Be courageous and face your weaknesses and acknowledge them, this is the first step to eliminating them from your life. The goal is to focus on how to eliminate the negatives by finding solutions and developing a plan to change. Stick to your plan and the change will happen and the negative will be eliminated. Change always takes diligence, so don’t hesitate to get the support you need to make the appropriate changes. Many times we look to circumstances as the excuse for a weakness, when it’s really a change that needs to happen to make our life more successful. Don’t bury your head in the sand thinking the negatives will just go away…Tackle them head on…you will have renewed confidence and energy by having awareness of the negatives and working to eliminate them.
Apply “The Novak Principle”
“Everything boils down to motivation”
What is the motivation for setting Goals? Financial independence, freedom, balance in your lifestyle, your family? Once you determine your true motivation, you will get a much clearer direction for your specific goal setting.

Remember The 21 Day Rule
It's widely stated that it takes 21 days to make or break a habit. This rule is especially effective in maintaining your goals. Write down your goals and read them several times daily. After three weeks you'll be amazed at how focused you have become on your goals. You will have established the habit of goal setting and will become part of your daily routine.

Help is all around you
Once you have made the decision to set goals, how do you maintain them? Surround yourself with mentors and successful people and the diversity of positive resources that are available today. The most successful business people will tell you that reading books, listening to tapes and attending seminars on a regular basis was an integral part lof their success story. Striving for excellence, by refreshing your mind with positive information, gives you the momentum for continued focus for the New Year.

Goals focus you on what needs attention in your life. The mind can not reach toward achievement until the objectives become clear. Turn on that switch in your mind to attain your goals and you will be astonished how the current of productivity will flow into every area of your life.
